Valorie Rohver

I am an Oil Painter living in Upstate New York, the Finger Lakes Region.

Until 2005 I was working as a Graphic Designer, with over three decades of experience in Offset and Screen Printing, and Dinnerware Design.

I learned to draw and paint from my Father, Walter Kozier who studied at the Maryland Institute in Baltimore, as well as classes.  As a critic, mentor and fellow painter my father's teachings have meant the world to me and my art.

Statement

Making art for me has become a way of seeing.  It’s about the light and how it moves around everyday objects making a simple setting special or memorable.  Painting Still Life allows me to paint a moment when the light touches and then fades, or the colors catch your eye and make you notice.  There may be a story, or not, maybe just a sweet memory that as you pass creates an emotion or just a simple smile.

I enjoy oil painting still life, floral and landscape in a tradional realist style.  I prefer to work from life, and occasionally use photos for referrence.  Most of my paintings are small in size so I try to incorporate something memorable whether it be the subject itself or the light that illuminates it.
